A hug-o-tron community. Beep beep boop boop.

Are you looking for comprehensive technical and professional support in your software career? Empathetech (pronounced “empathetic”) is an empathy-driven community for software engineers in every stage of their career. We center our community through the lens of non-traditional and diverse people in tech, and we welcome all folks who believe that good software engineers are good humans.

Why “empathy”? Empathy is central to our success as software engineers. As a service-based industry, we identify and address client needs—both spoken and unspoken—through our use of technology. As a community, we share our technical knowledge openly and collaborate with peers freely. It is our authentic relationships with people that drive what we develop as software, and how we develop as professionals. Empathy is both our inspiration and our foundation.

What resources do we offer? We develop and organize free resources, events, and support for professionals to hone their technical skills; develop and find their authentic professional voice; and collaborate with their peers on software projects:

  • 📚 Tech Interview Office Hours: We schedule biweekly office hours to help engineers workshop their technical interview skills across six primary technical interview domains.
  • 💻 Domain Demos: We offer ad-hoc sessions to explore technologies or frameworks used by engineering teams throughout the industry.
  • 💼 Career Development: We provide tactical support with respect to networking, curating job postings, and navigating the interview pipeline.
  • 👩‍💻 Human Hackathons: We organize casual, human hackathons for folks who want to meet new people and flex their creative muscles to build silly and engaging software.
  • 🤗 Community Collaboration: We do outreach with other local organizations in the PDX area to find opportunities for engineers to use their tech skills for their community.
